Choosing the right model depends on sample size, material properties, level of precision and automation, desired throughput and budget. The diameter of the blade needed to pass through the sample is often the determining factor and may limit model choices. Semiautomatic machines provide quantitative control of sectioning parameters, improving productivity and repeatability.
Manual machines involve qualitative operator control to move the blade through the sample, or move the sample through the blade.
