The TechCut 4™ Precision Low Speed Saw for Hot Cell Environments is purpose-configured to support controlled metallographic sectioning in nuclear hot cells, gloveboxes, and other contained laboratory environments where reliability, durability, and serviceability are critical. Designed for small, delicate samples, the TechCut 4™ uses a gravity-fed cutting system, variable blade speed control, and micrometer sample indexing with 2 um resolution to deliver precise, to deliver precise, low-damage cuts while preserving microstructural integrity. These capabilities make it well suited for nuclear materials research, post-irradiation examination (PIE), and radiological metallurgy workflows.
To support operation in the hot cell environment, the saw features a chain-driven spindle and 0.06 HP (45 W) motor with durable reduction gearbox for constant high-torque output. The electronics are designed for ease of maintenance, allowing boards or faceplates to be replaced if necessary—an important consideration for equipment installed in shielded or difficult-to-service locations. An integrated cutting fluid reservoir provides continuous lubrication and cooling during sectioning, while a sample catch screen helps retain sectioned material.
Constructed from precision-machined aluminum and stainless steel, the TechCut 4™ emphasizes corrosion resistance, durability, and long-term reliability in demanding controlled environments.
