Choosing the right model depends on sample size, material properties, level of precision and automation, desired throughput and budget. The diameter of the blade needed to pass through the sample is often the determining factor and may limit model choices. Labs needing to section a wide variety of samples should choose a model with greater versatility and capability. Any sectioning machine, when equipped with the proper blade type, is capable of cutting nearly any material.

Semiautomatic machines provide quantitative control of sectioning parameters, improving productivity and repeatability.

Manual machines involve qualitative operator control to move the blade through the sample, or move the sample through the blade.

The TechCut 4x™ is a smaller scale, precision sectioning saw featuring a gravity-fed arm that guides the sample through the cut, with a mechanical stop that when reached triggers the shut-off sensor for unattended operation.
